Doily-imprinted jewelry dish

I came across this post on pinterest a while back and I’ve finally made it! I love how easy and cute it is. Obviously, from the detailed picture tutorial on the blog I got this idea from, I was able to figure out how to make this adorable dish, but I don’t know what kind of clay they used, or what they brushed on after. So I figured I’d put my own tutorial up, since I did it a bit differently.

 

 

I started by rolling out some Sculpey polymer clay (can you tell I love polymer clay?) between two pieces of wax paper. I’d say it was about a little less than 1/4in thick.

 

I laid my doily on the clay where I wanted to make my imprint, and put the wax paper over and rolled it in.

 

I liked the  way it looked on both sides.

 

Next, I took a round bowl, placed it on top of my clay, and cut around. If I have a really big round cookie cutter, I would have used that to get a nice an clean cut, but I don’t!

 

You can see the edges are kind of raggedy.

 

Then, I placed my clay into the bowl I used to cut it, and baked it for about 10 minutes in my toaster oven at 275F. If you use this method made sure you can put your glass bowl in the oven!

 

After the 10 minutes, I took it out and put it on a pan so it would get a flat bottom, and put it back in for another 10 minutes. Once it was all baked, I filed the edges to make them more clean cut.

 

I painted mine, but you of course could leave it white. I loved it white also, I just wanted to try experimenting with the pant. I originally wanted to try to get the paint just in the doily shape, and wipe away the excess paint, but it stained it (just like my sister said it would!). I love it though! I’ll definitely be making these for Christmas gifts.

 

On an unrelated note, anyone know what kind of flowers these are? They’re growing in my complex, they’re just so cute! **Update!! Just found out from a neighbor they’re called Scotch Brooms.**

Going for a bike ride today for the first time in over two years!! So excited!!!
