DIY Doggie Bow Tie Collar

I’ve been wanting to do this for so long, and just kept on forgetting! Well the other day, a follower asked if I had ever made one, and it reminded me! I wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget (again) and picked up the collar the next day. I purchased my collar from the Dollar Tree, but only because this is purely for picture ops. If you want to have your pup wear this regularly, I’d purchase a more sturdier one. My sister told me that the dollar store collar had broken when our family dog was being walked once, so don’t take any chances!!

I cut two pieces of fabric* (Roscoe is a medium sized dog {45ish pounds}, so this bow tie size was good for him–scale up or down, depending on the size of your doggie). For the larger piece, I folded it in half (right sides together), and sewed the raw edge closed. Then, I turned it right side out, and tucked the side seams inward, and sewed them closed. For the center piece, I folded it in half lengthwise (right sides together) and sewed the raw edge closed. After I turned it right side out, I sewed the edges down, folded it in half lengthwise again, and (right sides together) sewed it to create a loop about 1in in diameter. Finally, I scrunched the bow up and slid the loop to the center. I then, hot glued** the bow onto the collar, and snapped some shots of my handsome boy!!

*I used a plain piece of cotton fabric, but again, if you want your pup wearing this regularly, I’d op for a canvas fabric.**I would also sew the bow onto the collar, rather than gluing, to keep it from falling off.

P.S.–you could very well do this for a girl if you use pretty fabric! 🙂
